PORTLAND – In early June high school students from across the country gathered for the National Math Meet at Penn State University. Six Cheverus High School students earned invitations to the national meet to compete with 1,730 of the best mathematicians in the country.

Competing for Cheverus in the B Division, two teams were formed for the competition. Two students were on the M team: Falmouth resident Michael Jerome and Scarborough resident Bill Fallon. The M team placed 12th nationwide.

The four students on the E team were Joe Rodrigues of Westbrook, Karin Renger of Cape Elizabeth, Bethany Potter of Auburn and Malcolm Macomber of Portland.

The E team came in 44th out of 79 teams and Joe Rodrigues was the high scorer on the E team.
