AUGUSTA – The Kennebec County Soil and Water Conservation District has funding to assist landowners in the Tacoma Lakes watershed with water quality improvement construction projects.
The purpose of the project is to improve water quality by reducing non-point source pollution. Shoreline erosion, controlling storm water as well as failing culverts and lack of stabilizing vegetation are some examples of fixable problems that can be addressed with the project.
The Cobbosse Watershed District will assist and provide guidance throughout the project and the Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed will also participate with their LakeSmart-Start! program and best management practice work by the Youth Conservation Corps.
The district will provide funding and technical assistance to landowners whose property is having a negative impact on water quality in the Tacoma Lakes watershed. Funding for construction projects will be available through 2008 and will be completed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Those who live in the Tacoma Lakes watershed and would like to find out more should call 622-7847, ext. 3.
