Look good

LEWISTON – “Look Good … Feel Better,” the American Cancer Society’s program for assisting women who are faced with appearance changes resulting from cancer treatment, will be offered at Central Maine Medical Center from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 20, at the Sam and Jennie Bennett Breast Care Center, 12 High St., Suite 103.

Society speaker

POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Old Schoolhouse on Route 26 next to the Poland Town Office. The speaker will be Bill Eldridge, vice president of the historical society and Poland’s resident caricaturist. He will give a 30-year retrospective of the history of Poland using his drawings. The public is welcome to attend meetings. Refreshments will be served following the talk.

The historical society has announced that the Old Schoolhouse will be open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays through the end of August.

Members of the Poland Historical Society will be available to give tours and answer questions. The society has some new displays this summer.

OES to meet

LISBON FALLS – Pioneer Chapter 11, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Ancient York Masonic Hall, Route 196. Members will honor secretaries and treasurers.

Grand Secretary Corley Anne Byras and Grand Treasurer C. Kelly Landry have been invited to the meeting. The service to a growing community project this month is Androscoggin Humane Society. All members are encouraged to donate animal treats, food or toys.

The evening will begin with a salad and sandwich dinner at 6 p.m.. All members of the Order are invited to attend.

Quilt show

LEEDS – Leeds Community Church will present the fourth annual quilt show, “Airing the Quilts,” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 22 and 23. There will be more than 100 quilts and hangings.

There will be a quilt shop and craft vendors as well as a cafe lunch room. Also there will be door prizes, a silent auction and demonstrations. The donation at the door is $3 for both days.

Talk on radon

LEWISTON – A presentation on radon will be given by the state toxicologist, Dr. Andrew Smith, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28, in the Lepage Conference Center.

The free program is being sponsored in partnership with the Chest Oncology Program at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. A healthy meal will be served. Registrations are required. If interested in attending, call 753-5467 by Friday, June 22.

Vacation school

LEWISTON – Vacation Bible School will be held at the United Baptist Church, 250 Main St., from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, June 25 to 29. I have attached a file with the necessary information. If you have any questions please call me at 783-4975.

The theme will be “Sunforce Kids: Special Agents Vacation Bible School” for children in kindergarten through grade six.

Camp for dads

LEWISTON – Boot Camp for New Dads is an education program for first-time fathers. Taught by fathers, Boot Camp helps new dads step up to the challenge of being a dad and to feel confident about bringing the new baby home.

The workshop will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday June 25, at Advocates for Children, B Street Community Center, 57 Birch St.

The class gives expecting fathers the hands-on practice of taking care of a baby, under the guidance of veteran dads who bring their new babies to class. Along with baby care, the class reviews the changing role of fathers and how to meet the needs of new mothers.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on June 12 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Janet Arey and Linda Leotsokos; second, Richard Balian and Nancy Farmer; third, David Lock and Patricia Garcia; fourth, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; fifth, Jim Flanagan and Charles Bartlett.

Winners in Flight B were: first, Richard Balian and Nancy Farmer; second, Jim Flanagan and Charles Bartlett. Winners in Fight C were: first, Jim Flanagan and Charles Bartlett; second, Helen Little and Anita Perrier. A Charity Game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the center.

The club also met on June 13 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, David Lock and Martine Begert; second, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; tied at third, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner with Luke Merry and Paul Barber and with Claire Lyons and Mary Leahey. Winners in Flight B were Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.
