AUBURN – Jeffrey A. Georgiady, 56, of Farmington, passed away Saturday, June 16, at the Hospice House.
Jeff was born June 24, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Nicholas P. and Bernice (Groth) Georgiady. He graduated from Talawanda High School and attended Miami University of Ohio.
As a young man he worked as a prehistoric North American archaeologist and then later as a teacher at UMF. He was a member of the Maine and Ohio Archaeological Societies and was a past president and founder of the Miami Valley Archeological Society. He authored many archaeology books including “Prehistoric Chert Types of New England” and “Prehistoric Chert Types of the Mid West.”
On July 30, 2006, he married Susie Conklin. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. He was known as one of the best flint knappers in the area, being able to replicate any style of prehistoric tool from any material that might be available. As a child of nine he wrote a paper for school stating that he wanted to be an archaeologist when he grew up. He did just that and participated in many famous dig sites around the Midwest and along the East Coast.
He is survived by his wife, Susie; his father, Dr. Nicholas P. Georgiady; two stepsons, Robert and Eric Conklin; two stepgrandchildren, Autumn and Christopher Conklin; two brothers, Michael and Peter Georgiady; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was predeceased by his mother, Bernice.
