JAY – Police are investigating a forced entry into the Hillside Sports Club where an undisclosed amount of cash was taken, Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday. Some change was left behind, he said.

The burglary was reported about 8:32 a.m. Monday at the club on Cross Street, located off Jewell Street, White said.

Entry was gained after a small side window was forced open, White said.

Two or three areas of the club were entered, he added.

It appears someone knew the building layout and the inside of the club, he said.

Officer Mike Mejia is investigating.

“We hope to develop some leads,” White said.

It appears that no liquor was taken, he said, but club officials are still taking inventory.
