Lisbon eighth-graders honored
LISBON – Shaun Avery and Bailey Keating, eighth-grade students at Philip W. Sugg Middle School, were honored as Middle Level Scholar Leaders at a banquet held on May 24 at the Augusta Civic Center.
Avery is the son of Lisa Avery of Lisbon Falls and Dan Avery of Windham. Also in attendance at the banquet with Avery was a former teacher from Lisbon Community School, DJ Thorne.
Keating is the daughter of Tonia and William Keating of Lisbon Falls. Priscilla O’Hearn, a former teacher of Keating at Holy Cross School, was also in attendance at the banquet.
The criteria for the award includes demonstrating academic initiative and scholarship, providing service to classmates and school, exemplifying positive attitudes and demonstrating leadership in the classroom and school activities.
More than 400 students, educators and parents attended the banquet to celebrate the achievements of the middle level students who are representative of the adolescents in middle level schools in the state. Eighty eighth-grade students from 40 schools were honored at the seventh annual middle level scholar-leader awards banquet. The event was organized by the Maine Association for Middle Level Education and the New England League of Middle Schools, with a supporting sponsorship from LifeTouch National School Studios.
