After reading for the past couple of weeks about Lewiston being chosen as an All-American City, I now see what little regard the Sun Journal has for the award and the city. It was disturbing to see the front-page, above-the-fold story about a graffiti “artist.”

Just because he has the uniform of the day, i.e., torn jeans and the abject, dejected look of disaffected youth, he is nothing more than a sociopathic vandal with no regard for private property.

Graffiti is a quality-of-life issue that starts the slippery slope of the city looking like urban blight has struck hard. Isn’t that the image Lewiston has been fighting to rid itself of for years? Twenty years old, and he had to take a job to pay the fine? Most people take a job to pay their bills and be a productive member of society. Did anyone else see the court news in the second section with his name and a $75 fine and $2,000 restitution next to it? Twenty years old, and he is teaching a 15-year-old to tag?

It sounds like he is contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Meanwhile the Sun Journal contributes to the decline of the All-American City. But that is what I have come to expect from the hard-hitting, probing knights of the keyboard on Park Street.
