LISBON FALLS – Francis E. Russell, 84, of High Street in Lisbon Falls, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 21, at his home.

He was born in Lisbon Falls March 9, 1923, the son of Walter and Alice Maude Crosman Russell. He was educated in Lisbon schools and during his senior year entered the U.S. Army in Sept. 22, 1941.

He served in the Quartermaster Corps attached to the Air Corps during World War II. In 1943, he married the former Dorothy Wharton. She died on Nov. 27, 2005. After the service, he worked at the Bonafide Mill in Lisbon, Norman Bulick Construction in Lisbon Falls and retired from the Pejepscot paper mill after 21 years.

He was a member of the Open Door Bible Church in Lisbon. Among his interests were building free flight wooden gas-powered airplanes, working with his father-in-law at his Harley-Davidson dealership in Mississippi until his move to Maine and his many rides with his family on his Harley with sidecar. He also enjoyed walking down Main Street in Lisbon Falls and chatting with all the local people and local merchants, puttering in his wood shed and collecting die-cast cars.

He is survived by his daughter, Lois (Jeannie) Hill of Lisbon Falls; three sons, Edwin Russell, and his wife, Laura, of Topsham, Walter Russell Sr., and his wife, Faye, of Lisbon Falls and James Russell Sr., and his wife, Karen, of Lisbon Falls; one brother, Lawrence Russell of San Diego Calif.; one sister, Helen Trunde of Chelsea; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two daughters, Alice and Nancy Marie Russell; one grandson, Michael Edwin Russell; one sister, Margaret Morrill; and two brothers, Arthur and Frederick Russell.
