NEW YORK – Tom Glavine picked up his 296th victory, ending a five-start winless streak and leading the New York Mets over the Oakland Athletics 9-1 on Friday night.

Glavine pitched into the ninth inning and added two hits and two RBIs. Shawn Green hit a solo home run and a two-run double, and Carlos Beltran homered and drove in two runs for the Mets, who won for the fifth time in 19 games in June.

In the Mets’ five wins this month, their opponents have scored three runs total. The Mets are 0-14 when allowing two runs or more this month.

Glavine (6-5), whose previous win was May 19 against the Yankees, doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the second inning. He added a two-run single to cap the Mets’ five-run sixth.

Glavine received a loud ovation when he came out for the ninth inning and Mets manager Willie Randolph was booed when he came out to remove the left-hander after he gave up a leadoff single to Eric Chavez. Glavine tipped his hat to acknowledge the crowd as he walked to the dugout.

Cubs 5, White Sox 1

CHICAGO – Carlos Zambrano dominated again, and this time he got enough support to win.

Zambrano matched a career-high with 12 strikeouts, leading the Chicago Cubs over the White Sox 5-1 Friday and sending their crosstown rivals to their 20th loss in 25 games.

Alfonso Soriano homered off Mark Buehrle leading off the game and Aramis Ramirez, activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, added a solo shot two outs later.

Marlins 5, Twins 4

MIAMI – Hanley Ramirez hit a tie-breaking homer with two outs in the eighth inning Friday night, and the Florida Marlins won their third straight game, 5-4 over the Minnesota Twins.

Dan Uggla hit his 14th home run and had three RBIs for Florida, while Kevin Gregg pitched the ninth to earn his 14th save in as many chances.

Minnesota’s Justin Morneau, who is second in the AL with 20 home runs, left the game in the eighth inning after being shaken up in a collision at home plate.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Luis Gonzalez homered and had two RBIs, and Russell Martin hit a two-run single to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6-3 Friday night.

Gonzalez, who is from nearby Tampa, hit a solo homer in a two-run second and added an RBI triple in a two-run eighth that put the Dodgers ahead 6-3. It was his first home run at Tropicana Field since he connected for the first homer ever at the stadium while playing for Detroit on March 31, 1998.

Gonzalez joined Olmedo Saenz, Mike Kinkade and Chad Kreuter as the only Dodgers players to homer as a designated hitter.

Tigers 5, Braves 0

ATLANTA – What a debut for Kenny Rogers.

Making his first start of the season after a blood clot was removed from his pitching shoulder, Rogers allowed only two hits in six innings to lead the Detroit Tigers past the punchless Atlanta Braves 5-0 on Friday night. The Braves were shut out for the third game in a row, their scoreless streak stretching to 28 innings. It was the first time since 1988 that Atlanta has been the victim of three straight shutouts.

Phillies 6, Cardinals 0

ST. LOUIS – Anthony Reyes lost his 11th straight decision, failing to make it out of the fifth inning of the Philadelphia Phillies’ 6-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night.

Jamie Moyer (7-5) threw six scoreless innings and Chase Utley had three hits and an RBI for the Phillies, who had allowed 33 runs while losing three of their previous four games. Moyer’s one-out single in the third inning was the first of six consecutive hits in a five-run outburst that broke up a scoreless game.

Reyes (0-9) is 0-11 since last September, not including a dominating performance against the Detroit Tigers in the World Series opener that helped propel St. Louis to its first title in 24 seasons. He allowed five runs and nine hits in 4 1-3 innings Friday, hiking his ERA 30 points to 6.64.

Nationals 4, Indians 1

WASHINGTON – Maybe Brandon Watson really can hit on this level.

A few days after earning a promotion based on a 43-game minor league hitting streak, Watson went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to help the Washington Nationals beat the Cleveland Indians 4-1 on Friday night.

With his boyish face, slender frame and crouched extremely low in his new stance, Watson looked straight out of Little League instead of the Triple-A Columbus, but he got his first multi-RBI game in the majors with a fourth-inning single and a sixth-inning hit that he stretched into a double with pure hustle and a headfirst slide. Both hits came with two outs and the pitcher on deck.

Cristian Guzman had three hits, including his first home run at RFK Stadium, and seven Nationals pitchers limited the Indians to eight hits.

with 13 strikeouts. Washington’s hurlers rebounded after getting clobbered nightly in a three-game sweep by Detroit, with Saul Rivera (2-2) throwing a perfect sixth inning to get the win and Chad Cordero pitching the ninth for his 12th save.
