Someone please sign me up for one of these “free” loans of more than $500,000 the city seems to be dispensing at taxpayer expense without so much as batting an eye! (Actually, I could probably do with a lot less.)
It’s just unbelievable to me our duly elected officials are so inept when it comes to fiscal responsibility, as to keep feeding a dead horse. The Bates Mill should have taught everyone a lesson – I guess not. Once again, millions of dollars are going into a project that will generate no income whatsoever.
Lewiston City Councilor Mark Paradis was right when he stated his vote for the Colisee might cost him the re-election in November, and rightfully so. Citizens of Lewiston need to wake up and not re-elect any of the current councilors, or mayor. We need to recruit and elect individuals with common sense who will look out for the best interest of the citizens.
That said, the first action of a new council should be the removal of our city administrator. Any city administrator who can blatantly tell taxpayers that there is an urgent need to raise taxes (whether property taxes, water and sewer, or rain fee) then miraculously comes up with excess funds to dump into lost causes, needs to be replaced.
Next time city councilors decide to throw money out the window, please let me know when and where so I can be there to pick up my share.
Jacqueline P. Smith, Lewiston
