Sabattus Board of Selectmen
Met: Tuesday
Revaluation concerns
Issue: Some residents, especially those whose homes sustained damage during the spring storms, worry that the recent revaluation will drive up their property taxes even if the town’s tax rate drops. The appraisals were done before the storms.
Up next: Board members heard the complaints, but said they couldn’t provide any accurate answers until the appraisal firm returns the revaluation information to them.
Light needed?
Issue: Resident Donald Saucier believes that the area of Elm Street and Hillside Estate Drive, where the U.S. Postal Service is installing a group of mailboxes near the Greene border, is too dark and requested that a street lamp be installed.
Up next: Board members were not sure if the utility pole proposed for the lamp is in Greene or Sabattus. Selectman Gino Camardese said he would check out the area and discuss his findings during the board’s June 26 meeting.
Budget petition presented
Issue: Town resident Mara Duncan presented town officials with a petition to hold a special town meeting to reconsider budget articles which were decreased or eliminated during the annual town meeting. Duncan was not at the board meeting but handed in the petition earlier in the day. The board took no action during the meeting Tuesday.
Propane prices
Issue: Selectman Guy Desjardins is worried that the prices set by Downeast Energy in the town’s 2007-08 propane plan are too high.
Up next: Board members said they would take Desjardins’ query under advisement, but likely will kick the issue to incoming Town Manager Gregory Gill to look into once he starts work in July.
Grilling (for) the town manager
The scoop: Members of the town manager search committee will hold a barbecue in the town office parking lot Thursday, July 12, to welcome Gregory Gill to work. All are welcome.
