WINTHROP – Chester Howard Rolfe, 92, a former resident of Monmouth, died peacefully in his sleep early Monday, June 25, at Winthrop Manor, where he resided.
He was born June 15, 1915, in Monmouth, the son of John H. and Phebe (Slauenwhite) Rolfe. He grew up in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1933. He attended Bliss Business School, where he met his wife, Evelyn Booth. They were married on July 2, 1939 in Monmouth.
He had his own plumbing business in Monmouth for several years, after which he worked in that field at various locations around Maine. Later, he and Evelyn moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where they lived for many years.
After he retired, they spent summers in Maine, where he enjoyed his vegetable and flower gardens and then in 2001, they moved back to Monmouth to live full time.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Booth) Rolfe of Winthrop; and several nieces and nephews.
