LEWISTON – Timely hitting and defensive gems enabled Interstate Batteries to trim 20M Club, 7-5, in the championship game of District 8 & 9 Class D men’s slow pitch softball Sunday.

Manager’s son Matt Meserve, a rookie in the men’s league, made several key catches in right field to preserve the title. Interstate avenged a 17-6 loss to 20M that forced a winner-take-all game in the double elimination bracket.

20M emerged from the consolation bracket Sunday by defeating L/A Harley-Davidson.

Interstate swept its three Saturday games, starting off with a narrow, 10-9 win over Varsity Lettering. From there, Interstate advanced to the finals with a 14-6 triumph over L/A Harley and an 11-6 verdict versus 20M.
