EUSTIS – The Dead River Area Historical Society will open for the summer on Saturday and will be open every weekend from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during July and August.

The society is looking for volunteers to work at the museum on Saturdays in July. It involves opening at 11 a.m., putting up the flags, turning on lights, visiting with people and closing at 3 p.m. There is a museum directory to help locate items, so you wouldn’t be totally without help. You don’t have to be a member. Anyone interested in helping at the museum can contact Debbie Townsend at 246-3562.

Displays include artifacts, manuscripts and photographs that have been donated or loaned by townspeople and descendants of original families of the Dead River region. Collections from 1850 on include old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, a church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.
