FREEPORT – Scottish singer Sara Grey and her American son Kieron Means will reunite for an evening of songs and stories Saturday, June 30, at First Parish Church.

Clear voices, rich harmonies and skillfully played banjo and guitar are trademarks of these traditional artists who will present Celtic, British and early American ballads and folk tales, and New England legends.

Means went through the usual musical rebellions, picking up the electric guitar and saxophone in his teens. Despite a fascination with the blues and rock ‘n’ roll, he found himself secretly practicing traditional tunes. Two albums and several tours later, he openly confessed, “My mother, Sara Grey, was my biggest music influence. Her love for tradition of all sorts, not just music, rubbed off on me. I saw her living the life of a musician. … I can’t say I wasn’t warned.”

The child of a traditional fiddler, Grey has spent more than 40 years gathering and performing songs on both sides of the Atlantic. Past stage partners have included Gordon Bok and Ed Trickett, but performing centuries-old songs as a mother-son duo has created a new level of intensity.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. The church is at 40 Main St. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for students and seniors; children 12 and younger admitted free. Advance tickets are available at Bridgham & Cook, 116 Main St.
