RANGELEY – Four teenagers were injured Wednesday night after the car they were in skidded out of control, hit three trees and ended up on its roof.

The teenager driving the vehicle, Taryn Carter, 17, of Rangeley, was charged with driving without a license, police Chief Phil Weymouth said. She was driving her father’s 2003 Subaru on a learner’s permit, he said.

The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m. on Depot Street, located off Main Street, also known as Route 4.

The vehicle was heading down the road at a high rate of speed when it went out of control and into a skid. It struck a tree, then hit two more trees and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof, Weymouth said.

Carter suffered cuts and abrasions. Passengers Rebecca Mulholland, 16, and Angela White, 16, both of Rangeley, suffered scrapes and bruises, Weymouth said. They were treated at the scene and released. Another passenger, Shayleen Pelham, 14, address unknown Thursday, was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by a NorthStar Emergency Medical Services. She was treated and released.

The driver and passengers were all wearing seat belts, which most likely saved their lives, the chief said.

The Subaru was totaled with an estimated of $16,000 in damage, he said.
