The Liberty Festival means more than just fireworks.
“It’s just a nice little festival,” said Cathy McDonald, a member of the organizing committee. “You don’t have to spend any money. Just go and enjoy it. There are plenty of people who do just that. They come out to enjoy the day.”
The festival will get under way at 2 p.m., with food and entertainment on each side of the Androscoggin River until 10 p.m.
On the Lewiston side, vendors and acts will congregate in Veterans Park, just north of Longley Bridge and at the foot of the Great Falls.
In Auburn, Festival Plaza will feature the Auburn Community Band at 7 p.m. Food will be on sale in Great Falls Plaza, across from the Auburn Esplanade.
Acts in Veterans Park begin at 5:30 p.m., featuring local performers, cheerleaders, classic rock band Dirty McCurdy and the Mike Willette Swing Band. Performers from Community Little Theater’s production of “High School Musical” will perform four songs beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The evening will be capped by a fireworks display beginning at 9:30 p.m. Blue Hill Pyrotechnics will fire $20,000 worth of rockets and explosives over the falls from Auburn’s West Pitch Park.
