LOVELL – A 20-year-old Sweden man was seriously injured Wednesday night when his motorcycle and a Jeep collided on Old Waterford Road, Maine State Police Trooper Kristy Morrison said.

Buddy Rand was listed in serious condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston on Thursday evening, a nursing supervisor said.

Rand was headed toward Waterford about 7 p.m. and Nicholas Kane, 19, of Fryeburg was headed toward Lovell when they met on a hill, the trooper said.

“They went head-on. They tried to miss each other,” Morrison said, but “the motorcycle ended up hitting the passenger side of the other vehicle.”

Rand, who Morrison said had broken bones and facial lacerations, was helped by Stoneham Rescue and flown to Lewiston.

Kane and his passenger, 19-year-old Bailey Damon of Fryeburg, were not hurt, the trooper said.

The Yamaha motorcycle was unregistered, and the status of Rand’s license is being investigated, she said.

The Jeep was registered to Kane.

Assisting Morrison was Trooper Kyle Tilsley.

At 2:30 a.m. Thursday in neighboring Stoneham, Morrison said a car driven by Joel Barker, 21, of Stoneham went off Route 5 on one of the curves around Kezar Lake and struck trees.

Barker was alone in the car owned by one of his parents, she said, when “he was coming around one of the corners and he went off into the trees on the opposite side of the road. He actually walked to his house” and Stoneham Rescue was called, she said.

He was taken to Bridgton Hospital, treated and released, according to officials.

Barker was issued a summons on a charge of operating after suspension of his license and ordered to appear in court next month, Morrison said.
