Robert Berube sent a survey to his constituents in Lisbon, and 72 percent responded that they’d like to see handheld cell phones banned from use on the road.

He submitted a bill, and it died – a fate shared by six other cell phone bills submitted this session. A similar one passed later on, Berube noted, banning the use by minors on the road, sponsored by another representative.

The Republican representative from Lisbon sponsored two other bills this session, one which lowered the standard for the amount of light that must be transmitted through an automobile’s rear and side windows to 35 percent net of glass and material.

Berube serves on the Judiciary Committee, where he said the most contentious bills were over adoption laws and determining if adult adoptees should be allowed to obtain their birth certificates, which he ultimately supported.
