NEW GLOUCESTER – The Friends of the Shakers will hold their third annual Shaker bake sale on Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village. The sale will start at 10 a.m. and continue until all goods have been sold.

The bake sale is being held in conjunction with the annual Friends of the Shakers weekend. The organization was started in 1974 and members have been meeting every August for events. The weekend draws more than 100 members from all over the United States.

The sale will feature goods baked from Shaker recipes and will include such items as Shaker apple pie, blueberry pie, brownies, cookies, homemade bread and other baked items. Individual slices will also be offered.

The Friends will also raffle a basket with items from the Shaker store, including the new Shaker cooking oils, books on Shakers and Shaker music CDs.

Sr. Frances Carr’s cookbook, “Shaker Your Plate of Shaker Cooks and Cooking,” and her autobiographical account, “Growing Up Shaker,” will be available for purchase. The Shaker Village is located just off of Route 26 on Shaker Road.
