LEWISTON – Marguerite E. Lavoie, 91, formerly of Sabattus, died Sunday, July 8, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion after a long illness.

She was born in Lewiston March 4, 1916, the daughter of Phillippe and Elizabeth (Baron) Rene. On Sept. 27, 1937, she married Ernest Lavoie, who died on July 2, 1949.

For many years she worked in the local shoe industry. She also worked at Pioneer Plastics and for the Maine State Department of Human Resources until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, member of Ladies of St. Anne’s, and also the Survivance Francaise at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Letourneau, and son-in-law, Robert, of Auburn and Therese Maheux, and son-in-law, Raymond, of Wales; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Roger and Ernest “Paul” Lavoie; one daughter, Claire Bussiere; one grandson, Scott Lavoie; two brothers, Herman and Henri Rene; and four sisters, Sister Angeline Rene, Antonia, Delores and Carmen Rene.
