SABATTUS – The town of Sabattus will hold a barbecue from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today to welcome the new town manager, Gregory Gill. All residents are welcome.
Closet open
SABATTUS – Loaves and Fishes at the Dominican Sisters’ convent, 61 Lisbon Road, will open its clothes closet and garage sale with a variety of items from 1 to 3 p.m. every Saturday this summer starting on July 14.
Everyone is invited to browse. People who have donations to make toward the next bazaar, scheduled for the first weekend of October, can leave them also. For more information, call Sister Lucille Fournier, 375-8399.
To unveil stone
LEWISTON – The L&A Veterans Council will unveil the new U.S.S. Maine Monument and the 12th stone with 216 names on it on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Veterans Memorial Park.
The stone will include 10 names given and paid for by Norm Vallee of the Village Inn. They are Paul Crowell, APO address; Christopher A. Phinney, Auburn; Danny L. Caron, Sabattus; Thomas D. Gurney, Mechanic Falls, Wilfred L. Cloutier, Durham; Ronald R. Bell, Lewiston; Armand R. Caron, Sabattus; Edward L. Roy, Lewiston; Edward M. MacDonald, Poland; and Raymond Morin, Lewiston.

Residents needed
SABATTUS – The town of Sabattus is looking for nine residents to form a Solid Waste and Recycling Committee.
The town is also seeking 15 residents to form an Update to the Comprehensive Plan Committee. Those interested in either committee should contact the town office at 375-4331.
Family day
OXFORD – Lake Thompson Fish and Game will hold a family fun day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at its facility on the Paine Road. There will be a running deer shoot and a trap shoot. The public is welcome. Rain date will be Sunday, July 22.
