TURNER – The AK League ASA 12-and-under softball tournament will be held today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Boofy Quimby Memorial Field in North Turner.
More than 400 girls play major division AK softball, including the towns of Turner, Leeds, Greene, Hartford and Sabattus.
A full snack shack will be available at the game site. The championship game is expected to begin after 1:30 p.m. Rain date is Sunday.
Morin, Bergeron pitch Elliot past Hall-Dale
LEWISTON – After dropping its opening tournament game to Gardiner, Elliot Ave. Little League 11-12 all-stars bounced back with an 8-4 win over Hall-Dale.
Sam Morin picked up the win, pitching 4 1/3 innings before Jake Bergeron closed it out. Wyatt Rush and Colin Rush pitched well for Hall-Dale. Morin and Bergeron combined to allow five hits while striking out eight.
Eric Soucy singled in the fifth after hitting a solo home run in the second for Elliot. Bergeron banged out two hits, with Morin, Brian Wigant, David Cusson and Matt Poto each getting one. Zac Plummer ripped a two-run double for Hall-Dale. Brad Shepherd, Sam Shepherd, Kristina Buck and Spencer Shagoury each singled. Elliot plays the South Lewiston-Gardiner winner at Gardiner at 10 a.m. today.
