LIVERMORE – Livermore will hold a birthday party on Friday, Aug. 3, with storytelling, boat parades, night light display and birthday book.

Festivities will begin at 3 p.m. with a birthday cake and punch served in honor of Billie Gammon’s 91st birthday at the North Livermore Baptist Church. About 3:30 in the church auditorium, Livermore’s famous storyteller will share her memories of “Norlands 34 Years Ago.”

Many area residents and their families volunteered their talents to begin the annual Heritage Days, live-in weekends for college and adult students and school visits to the farm and school.

At 7 p.m. “muscle boats” – kayaks, canoes and paddle boats – will begin a boat parade from Lakeshore Motel and Restaurant, Route 4, returning to Lakeshore before dark. Participants are invited to bring their air horn or bell and create a “honking symphony.” A trophy will be awarded to the best decorated muscle boat and ribbons will be presented to all who take part.

At 8 p.m. power boats will gather at Lakeshore Restaurant and circle around the pond. Air horns are encouraged to add to the celebration. A trophy will be awarded the “best decorated” power boat. Last year Santa Claus visited; who will join the celebration in 2007? Participation ribbons will be available at Lakeshore.

About 9:15, many lights around the edge of Long Pond will provide a special light show. All owners of cottages and year-round homes are invited to hang out Christmas lights. Campfires are okay too. Three short air horn firings from Lakeshore will signal everyone to light sparklers if they wish. The committee has begun a separate fund to hold donations toward an old-fashioned fireworks display in the future.

Residents and visitors may enter Long Pond at the boat ramp on Route 4 or watch from Lakeshore Restaurant. An old-fashioned refreshment stand will open about 5 p.m. at Lakeshore and include popcorn, watermelon, ice cream, cookies and candies, hot dogs and kielbasa.

A 2007 birthday book is being prepared, containing birthday greetings and baby/child photos. Check with Tammy Castonguay at Lakeshore for a sample page and form to complete. Proceeds will help cover expenses of the evening.

Coordinating committee for the birthday party includes Dennis Stires, 897-4222; Tammy Castonguay at Lakeshore, 897-7100; Debbie Finley, 897-4457; and Don Newcomb, 897-2457, committee treasurer.
