Derald Young from Damn Yankee Balloons of Dixfield looks for a spot to land as he slowly floats over College Street in Lewiston on Monday night. With nearly no wind, he tried to land on several occasions, but each time a ground gust blew him off course, forcing him to hit the gas and head back up. Eventually, he floated over Montello Manor and gently set down in the parking lot to the delight of residents and several dozen cars and people on foot. It’s just a sampling of things to come as the 15th annual Great Falls Balloon Festival kicks off Aug. 16 with mass launches at dawn and dusk, weather permitting, until Aug. 19.
