Dear Sun Spots: We understand that the Highland Games (or something like that) will be held at Thomas Point sometime in August. Can you find out anything about that? Our senior citizens would be interested in attending this for an outing or trip. – Wes & Bertha Johnson, Monmouth.

Answer:
The 29th Annual Maine Highland games takes place Aug. 18 at Thomas Point Beach, 29 Meadow Road, Brunswick, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Events will include pipe bands, Highland and Scottish dancing, arts and crafts, Scottish fiddlers, children and adults’ games, including Tossing of the Caber, Wheat Sheaf Toss and Putting of the Stone, Border Collie herding demonstrations, Highland cattle, and piping contests. It is the only Scottish event of its kind in Maine. For advance ticket information, contact Patti Tillotson, P.O. Box 12, Harpswell, ME 04079-0012 and for the raffle contact Sue Mack, 44 Leighton Road, Pownal, ME 04069. Advance tickets are also available at the Town Landing Market in Yarmouth and at Bath Sweet Shoppe in Bath. There is an admission charge. Dear Sun Spots: I have been working for over a year on a Life book for my grown daughter. As I near the end, I now realize that it needs to continue into a second volume. Unfortunately, the album has now been discontinued. I have a similar situation for an album I am working on for my son. It appears I will need a second album for his book as well. I have tried contacting the Creative Memories company and have not received a response. If anyone has these discontinued albums and is willing to sell them to me, or knows where I might purchase them, I would sincerely appreciate it. They are the 12-by-12 Premier Albums from the previous catalog. I am looking for the colors of tanzanite and evergreen. I may be reached through e-mail at [email protected], which I would prefer, or by phone at 795-0655. Please leave a message if I am not at home. – No Name, Lewiston.

Dear Sun Spots: My grandson, Daniel Poulin, heard about the People to People Ambassadors Student Program and became very interested in it. He really wanted to take their trip to Australia in July. His parents gave him a starting donation, and he signed up. But he knew he’d have to raise hundreds more. When he came to visit us, we learned how much this dream would mean for him. I then started to think how, and the first thing that came to mind was ‘How About Sun Spots?’ They’re good to help out. I don’t know what we’d do without this column. Sun Spots goes into action and the next thing you know our questions are answered. So I sent in a letter requesting for help and why. It appeared in Sun Spots, and my phone never stopped ringing. I am still in shock by the responses. Thank you all so much for making this dream come true for a 16-year-old. – Proud grandmother Edith Lemieux, Lewiston.

The following has been posted online by Normand M. to answer Michelle in Sabattus’ inquiry about maps for St. John’s Cemetery in Brunswick and St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston featured in the July 24 column:

I have mapped both those cemeteries. I can most probably help her out. I also have databases of these two cemeteries, St. Peters and I can be contacted at 207-782-1725 or at the Franco-American Genealogical Society at the corner of High and Academy streets in Auburn. We are open on Wed from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Sat from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – No Name, Auburn.
