LIMINGTON – A Hiram man missing for nearly a week was found dead late Wednesday morning, according to Steve McCausland, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Richard Trent Lewis, 28, apparently died after driving off Boothby Road in Limington on a Honda dirt bike. A passer-by found Lewis underneath the bike a few feet from the pavement. His body was taken to a nearby funeral home for examination.

Lewis was reported missing Friday by his brother, Travis, after he failed to return to his Hiram apartment, Oxford County Chief Deputy Dane Tripp said this week. Travis said Richard was riding from their brother Kevin Lewis’s house in Standish when Travis met Richard on the trail. Richard told Travis that he was going to have a beer, swim in Horne Pond in Limington, and return home, Tripp said.

According to Travis, Richard also had plans to visit his mother’s house in the area, pick up his children for the weekend, and feed his roommate’s dogs, although he failed to show up at each location, Tripp said.

Boothby Road is south of Horne Pond. Limington is in Cumberland County and is southeast of Hiram, which is in Oxford County.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and Maine Warden Service had unsuccessfully searched for Lewis in Hiram, Standish and Limington.
