Haley takes best overall in woodsmen’s competition
RANGELEY – With 240 points, Josh Haley of Rangeley Plantation claimed the best over-all award at the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum’s 27th annual Logging Festival woodsmen’s competition on July 28 at the museum field.
Cheered on by his wife, Sherry, Haley took home a chain saw as his award. Second for best over-all was James Carignan of Rangeley with 180 points. Mike Granberg, also of Rangeley, took third in best over-all with 160 points. Both men won a chain saw carving by Rodney Richard Jr. of Rangeley and Pownal.
Jim Burak of Topsham earned a fourth with 130 points, and Zac Kirk of Colebrook, N.H., was fifth with 90 points. The competition was organized by Rodney Richard Jr. and Lenita Richard of Pownal.
Winners of individual events that counted for the best overall award were as follows:
Crosscut saw: first, Josh Haley and James Carignan, 41:32 seconds, 50 points; second, Mike Granberg and Jim Burak, 46:92, 40; third, Kent Lepage and Rodney Richard Jr., 55:12, 30.
Stock chain saw: first, Josh Haley, 25:67 seconds, 50 points; second, Mike Granberg, 25:68, 40; third, Jim Burak, 25:72, 30.
Pulp piling: first, Josh Haley, 54:99 seconds, 50 points; second, Mike Granberg, 1:00.75, 40; third, James Carignan, 1:01.10, 30.
Dot split: first, Zac Kirk, 50 points; second, James Carignan, 40; third, Mike Granberg, 30.
Axe toss: first, Jim Burak, 51 feet 4 inches; second, Josh Haley, 50 feet 2 inches; third, Jacob Oakes, 48 feet 11 inches.
