HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) – A Hampton man is nursing police dog bites and facing a variety of charges after allegedly leading officers from three communities on a chase, then fighting with the dog and other officers trying to arrest him.

Police were looking for a car that had eluded officers Wednesday night from Gilford, Laconia and Alton. Two state troopers saw the car around 10:45 p.m., in Hampton and tried to block it in a parking lot.

Police say they set a police dog loose when the driver, Gregory Gowen, 47, refused orders to lie on the ground and acted hostile.

Investigators say Gowen dragged the dog back to his car, got in the vehicle and tried to drive away, with the dog still latched onto him. The troopers say the driver fought when them when they got him out and finally handcuffed him with the help of three by-standers.
