BUCKFIELD – The Buckfield Inn has closed its doors after almost two years of new ownership.
The Buckfield town office did not know the reason for the decision, but confirmed the inn was no longer doing business as of July 29.
The inn’s owners were unavailable for comment, but their answering machine also confirms the news.
“I’m sorry, we have currently closed,” says a recorded message at the inn. “Thank you so much for your patronage.”
Christine Lebel and Pamela Forman reopened the inn in October 2005 after it had been closed for two years. The former owner, Russell Clark, had opened a bed and breakfast in September 2003 and closed it in July 2005 after the business became too stressful for him.
Lebel and Forman had both worked at the inn when it was owned by Clark. Lebel worked as a cook and Forman as a server, and both continued to serve in these capacities after becoming the new management.
According to the Buckfield Inn’s Web site, the building can house “a close group of 20 or five separate groups of two to four persons each.” It is also capable of serving up to 44 dining patrons.
The town office said no one had expressed interest in purchasing the inn, located in an 1840s farmhouse on Turner Street, as of Friday.
