AUBURN – Edwin R. Leger, 69, of Lewiston passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 29, 1937, the son of the late Frederick and Loretta (Dumont) Leger. He was employed at Demers Plate Glass for about 30 years and then Champion Glass, until his retirement in 1999. During his retirement he worked parttime for Cumberland Glass, until his illness.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1958 and in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1962.

He was active in the Lewiston/Auburn Bowling Association for many years. He was inducted into the L/A Bowling Hall of Fame in 1985. He was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He belonged to Tranquil Lodge 29, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite ’32 Degree and Valley of Androscoggin. In the Kora Shrine, he was a member of the Greeter’s Unit.

He enjoyed being with his family, woodworking and traveling. He was married to the former Venise M. Cote on July 20, 1957. She died Oct. 7, 2002.

He will be sadly missed by his companion for three years, Marie Boucher; two daughters, Claire Leighton, and her husband, Robert, of Minot and Debra Audet of Poland; one son, Richard Leger, and his wife, Tina, of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Heather and Robie Leighton, Matthew Audet and Joshua and Brooke Leger; five brothers, Kenneth, Bruce, Paul, Lynn and Denis Leger; and two sisters, Lydia Gilbert and Karen Parent.

He was predeceased by his wife, Venise; his brothers, Edward and Robert; sister-in-law, Laurette Lanois; brother-in-law, Romeo Lanois; son-in-law, Normand; and his parents.
