LEWISTON – Sarah C. “Sally” Batty, 81, of Lewiston died Thursday, Aug. 2, after a long illness.
She was born in Portland, June 8, 1926, a daughter of Wallace and Mary (Gorham) Campbell and was educated in Portland, graduating from Portland High School and the University of Maine at Farmington.
Sally was a buyer at Porteous, Mitchell and Braun in Portland for 10 years, after which she returned to school and became a teacher. She taught school in Lewiston for 20 years.
She was a member of the Maine and National Education Association and Retired Teachers Association in Augusta. She lived in Dixfield for 10 years, where she was a Girl Scout leader, vice president of the Women’s Auxiliary of Rumford Community Hospital and served as chairwoman of the Hospital Auxiliary Ways and Means Committee.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Kenneth L. Batty of Lewiston; one daughter, Deborah A. McAuliffe of Taunton, Mass.; two grandsons, Christopher Lee and William Joseph McAuliffe of Taunton, Mass.; one sister, Ellen Meyers of Cape Elizabeth; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Wallace, Donald, James and Robert Campbell; and one sister, Annabelle Mikkelsen.
