NORWAY – Town Manager David Holt told selectmen Thursday night that the Federal Emergency Management Agency will give Norway $75,000 to help repair damage from the April nor’easter.
That money, along with another $30,000 originally set aside for overlay work on Thurston Road which will now be delayed, will be used to ditch roads and make other improvements to Millett, Hemingway, Frost Hill and other roads. Road Committee members are expected to meet with Frost Hill Road residents soon to discuss work there.
The plan, Road Committee member Mike Marshall said, is to do some ditching work and remove the almost nonexistent pavement on Frost Hill Road until there are more funds available to come back and repave. Dunn Road will received an overlay and Crockett Ridge Road will also get some repair work.
While some members of the community asked about their own roads, Selectman Les Flanders said the town does what it can with the money it has.
“There’s not a good place to stop before you finish,” he said of the need to do much more than the town can afford in road repairs.
Holt said Millett, Hemingway and Frost Hill roads are in particularly bad shape and need immediate work. Work will also be done on Skillin Avenue and Green and Deering streets. Portions of Daniels Road and Shedd Road will also be repaired.
Marshall said he is always open to suggestions and comments from the public, and encouraged people to either attend the meeting or join the committee. The committee meets about four to six times a year to prepare and review the budget and road project schedule.
