Competitors in Sunday’s Maine State Triathlon look back towards onlookers and well-wishers before the start of the swimming leg of the race. The Maine State Triathlon draws athletes from all over New England, New York and Eastern Canada. A 1K loop swim at the Bethel Inn Lakehouse on Songo Pond proceeded a 25K cycle on scenic roads and through historic Bethel and a 5k run through soccer fields and on wooded cross-country trails at Gould Academy. The event allows both individual and team participants and is one of one of the most anticipated triathlons due in large part to the rural course
