WILTON – Selectmen face a lengthy agenda when they meet today beginning with signing warrants for a special town meeting, discussing property revaluation with the firm that did it, and hearing about East Dixfield’s fire truck needs.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town office.

Selectmen voted to call a special meeting for Tuesday, Aug. 28, for voters to consider approving a tax increment financing district and a credit enhancement agreement for the proposed Comfort Inn on routes 2/4 near the Farmington town line.

Earth work was being done at the site Monday where Great Maine Hospitality LLC, a company created by Lafrance Hospitality Co., proposes to build and operate an 84-unit hotel.

The board will also set a public hearing on the matter, which would likely be on the same day as the vote but prior to the town meeting, Town Manager Peter Nielsen said.

Selectmen will also meet with a representative from Tyler Technologies’ Cole Layer Trumble of Connecticut, which conducted a revaluation of properties in town, Nielsen said.

Some homeowners have questioned the calculations, he said, and selectmen also have some questions.

“It appears to me most of it has to do with land pricing,” Nielsen said.

There have been 300 information meetings on parcels, he said, with some owned by the same people. About half of those resulted in some changes, he said.

There are about 2,600 property parcels in town, he said.

“Some people are very upset, others not,” Nielsen said of the new assessed valuations.

Land values prompted the most questions and concerns, he said.

The board will also hear from East Dixfield fire Chief Randy Hall, who wants to place some equipment needs in front of selectmen.

Wilton and Dixfield share in the expense of the East Dixfield Fire Department, Nielsen said.

Other agenda items include quarterly reports from the police chief and recreation supervisor, recycling committee and a couple of appointments to the Planning Board.
