BOSTON – Alfred J. Loewe, 60, a resident of Federal Road in Livermore, died Thursday, Aug. 8, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital after complications from a heart attack.

He was born on March 12, 1947, in Brunswick, the son of the late Joseph and Ida E. (Breton) Loewe. He graduated in 1965 from Livermore Falls High School as class valedictorian. He furthered his education at the University of Maine, Orono, receiving his B.S. degree in math. Fred later earned two master’s degrees, in education and guidance counseling.

He taught high school math and computers at Cony High School for 27 years and was adviser to the math club and the computer club and was very active in the Chizzle Whizzle Talent Show. He was a member of the Maine National Guard Engineering Battalion of Augusta.

On May 16, 1970, he married the former Bessie Mae Parker in Jay. He attended Berean College and received his B.S. degree in pastoral studies. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He was founding pastor of the Victory Christian Church of Livermore in 1996. He was a member of the Ecumenical Pastors Group.

He enjoyed perennial gardening, canoeing, walks, old movies, reading and computers and helping those in need. He especially loved being a grandfather. He will be remembered as a caring person, who lived his life for his family, his friends, his community and his church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Bessie of Livermore; a son, Scott Alfred Loewe, and his wife, Tammy, of Gorham; a daughter, Melissa Loewe of the Philippines and Livermore; grandchildren, Kailey Elizabeth and Evan Michael Loewe; four sisters, Dolores Loewe of North Carolina, Melinda Loewe of Livermore Falls, Pamela Cook of Livermore Falls and Rosemarie Barnett of Weld; his mother-in-law, Winna Mae Walsh of Livermore Falls; and his godmother, Lorraine Ouellette of Jay.
