DURHAM – In a special election Tuesday, voters chose two new selectmen to fill unexpired terms.

Denise Lacasse-Laflamme defeated Katherine Curtis 35-27 for an 8-month seat vacated by Christine Charette.

Daniel Hume, who was unopposed, was elected with 56 votes to fill the remainder of Mike VanDerWerf’s term, which expires in April 2009.

Charette resigned to apply for the position of administrative assistant, which she now holds. VanDerWerf resigned because he is moving out of town.

Only 62 of the town’s 3,515 eligible voters turned out to cast votes.
