BUCKFIELD – R.C. and Sons Paving Inc. was awarded the contract to pave Paris Hill Road Tuesday night, but not before Selectman Oscar Gammon gave a dire warning to the bidders.

“I am not happy with R.C. and Sons because of work done five years ago. They made a mess of North Buckfield Road and we are still having problems. We don’t want that kind of quality,” he said.

Paul St. Jean, a spokesman for the company said, “That experience was five years ago. Things are different now. We will meet specifications.”

Board Chairman Skip Stanley said all the town wants is that the specifications be met.

Town Manager Glen Holmes spoke to the credibility of the company’s new management and said he was sure things would be different this time.

The vote was unanimous to award the bid to R.C. for no more than $208,000 to finish the paving job on Paris Hill Road. The length is approximately 3.5 miles.

A bid was awarded to low bidder Stanley Excavation for three phases of ditching work on South Hill Road at a cost of $42,519.

Buckfield Rescue Chief Lisa Buck showed a certificate the unit has been awarded by Maine Emergency Medical Services. Buck said her crew has worked hard to give teachers training in CPR and first aid and how to use the automatic external defibrillator that is housed at the high school.

In other action, the board approved using the field at the Municipal Building for the community dance on Labor Day weekend. “All committees are working together and this year’s Labor Day parade and other activities on that day will be the biggest and best ever,” Holmes said.

These hours will be in effect from the second Sunday in March until the first Sunday in November. From the first Sunday in November until the second Sunday in March the station will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
