WINTHROP – The Maine Living Arts Festival will be held during Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 through Sept. 3, at Camp Mechuwana.

The new gathering, which hopes to become an annual event, will bring together people from all over New England and beyond to create a spiritual community modeling cooperation, diversity and tolerance, while providing a variety of exploratory experiences for participants.

“The Emerging of Spontaneous Community” is the theme for the 2007 Maine Living Arts Festival.

Participants will be encouraged to create and present workshops or playshops in addition to attending some of the planned activities, which include opening and closing circles, a firewalk, labyrinth, meditation, chanting, women’s and men’s drumming, swimming and boating.

The cost of the weekend is $150 for adults and $110 for children ages 6 to 16 (children 5 and under are free). The cost includes seven meals and lodging for the weekend.
