AUBURN – Janet Francis Smyc, 86, formerly of Barker Arms, died Friday, Aug. 10, at the Odd Fellows Nursing Home, where she resided for the past year.
She was born in Lewiston, Sept. 21, 1920, the daughter of the late Charles and Laura Whitman Larrabee. She was educated in the Auburn school systems.
She was married to Joseph Smyc on Dec. 6, 1940. He passed away in 1972. She worked as an inspector at Cushman Shoe and Dori Shoe prior to her retirement in 1977.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, where she participated in the E.C.W. and the Nuggets. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society at Barker Arms.
She loved being with her girls, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and close family friends. She enjoyed doing her crafts, sewing, going to camp at Tripp Lake, dining out and being with her church group. She will be remembered for her love of her family and will be missed by many friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Harris of Auburn, Diane Vincent, and husband, Gerald, of Auburn, Barbara McAlister, and husband, Daniel, of Auburn; her grandchildren, Robert and Tina Harris Jr. of Auburn, Brian and Terry Harris of Auburn, Susan and Matthew Callahan of Minot and Tracy and Sean Watson of Poland; great-grandchildren, Jason, Megan, Benjamin, Zachary and Samantha Harris, Quinn and Colin Callahan; a sister, Elizabeth Knight of Auburn; a brother, Robert W. Larrabee, and wife, Evelyn, of Auburn; her sisters-in-law, Ellen Larrabee of Auburn and Cecilia McMannus, and husband, Paul, of Leeds; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Larrabee; and her son-in-law, Robert E. Harris Sr.
