East Poland – Richard Elliot Dunn, 75, of East Poland, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 12, after a long illness with his loved ones by his side.
He was born Oct. 20, 1931, in Lewiston, the son of Phillip E. and Grace Jordan Dunn. Raised in East Poland, he graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1950.
He was a proud member of the United States Air Force, who served his country in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. After his return from the war, he married the former Helen A. Strout in 1955. Together they raised seven children.
He worked for P. E. Dunn, Inc., and then for Northland Industrial (Nitco). In 1973, he moved to Florida and worked for Bob and Lois’s Restaurant where he met and loved talking with the local folk. In 2004, he left Florida to reside with family in Maine, only a matter of houses from where he was born and raised.
He had numerous interests and hobbies. He enjoyed doing his puzzles, reading, traveling, and especially sharing with others all the wonderful experiences he had through his lifetime.
We will never forget the stories he shared about the West, and how beautiful this country is in its entirety.
He is survived by his children, daughters Debra and husband, Lloyd (Chip) Boyd Jr., of East Poland, Kristine and husband, Ira Simmons, of Waldoboro, Marcia and husband, Arthur Gagne, of Greene, Joyce Dunn of Auburn, and Diane Dunn of New Gloucester; son Reginald S. Dunn of Lewiston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fletcher and Norma Dunn of Poland Spring, Amos and Marilyn Dunn of Poland, Peter and Donna Dunn of Norway; sisters, Kathleen McAllister of Waterford, Barbara Roy of Anthony, Fla., Bernice (Cola) and brother-in-law, Harry Thompson, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; son Kerry Jon Dunn; sisters Roslyn Durgin and Phyllis Smith; and great-granddaughter Olyvia K. Hickman.
The family would like to give sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Michael Stadnicki, Tisha Smith, R.N., Dr. Evan Ramser and staff, and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice. Everyone who helped in Richard’s care has been so warm and dedicated. Thank you. Daddy, Brother, Grandpa, Friend.You will be sadly missed.
