Red Cross CEO
PORTLAND – Dave Thompson has been confirmed by National Headquarters as the next chief executive officer of the American Red Cross in Maine.
Thompson takes over from the former CEO, Suzanne McCormick, and will oversee operations for all four chapters.
Thompson is a senior executive with fundraising and nonprofit leadership experience and comes to the Red Cross from the YMCA.

Mushroom class
AUGUSTA – “Identifying Maine Mushrooms: An Introductory Class on Wild Mushrooms” will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24 and 25, at the Pine Tree State Arboretum.
Instructor will be Greg Marley. Friday is a one-hour lecture from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at $5 a person. Saturday is an all-day workshop with indoor and outdoor components from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $40 for members/$50 for nonmembers. Friday’s lecture will be free to anyone signing up for both days.
