PERU – Selectmen elected Bill Scott as chairman Monday night.

Rodney Jamison declined the vice chairman’s job, and Jim Pulsifer was elected to fill that position.

Laurieann Milligan, who was recently elected, was welcomed to the board. Pulsifer was the other recently elected selectman along with Corey Jacques, who was not present.

Bill Gates from the Appeals Board thanked Pulsifer for his service on the Appeals Board. Pulsifer had to resign when he was elected selectman.

Gates said that the Appeals Board has time vested in the Paul Bickford appeal and feels the town might consider the board’s input before entering into a consent agreement with Bickford over his shoreland zoning violation.

The Appeals Board found that Bickford’s deck/porch structure does not violate the shoreland ordinance. They did find that his year-round use of the property is in violation of the ordinance on conversion of seasonal residence to year-round use.

At their last meeting, selectmen approved having Code Enforcement Officer Jack Plumley contact Bickford on a consent agreement to settle violations. Bickford’s attorney was to draw up the document.

Bickford could not be reached for comment.

In other matters, selectmen approved the following permits: a mobile home on Auburn Road, a ranch by Community Concepts on Mineral Springs Road, replacing a mobile home on Auburn Road, replacing a garage on Lovejoy Hill Road and a ranch on East Shore Road.

They voted to meet next on Aug. 27, then weekly thereafter.

At a special town meeting, voters authorized the fire chief and selectmen to sell by sealed bid the 1979 International tank truck and the 1847 Chevrolet Pumper.

They also authorized the fire chief to buy tire chains for the 2007 International tank truck with funds received from the sale of the other trucks.
