LEWISTON – Dwight Thomas Paiton, 78, of Linden Street, Auburn, died Monday, Aug. 13, at Central Maine Medical Center after a short illness, with his family by his side.
He was born in Lewiston on Nov. 11, 1928, a son to the late George and Clara (Peverly) Paiton. He was educated in Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1947.
Dwight worked most of his years at Armour & Co., starting in 1947 and retiring in 1985. After that he went on to work for Associated Grocers, where he fully retired in 1992.
Dwight loved bowling throughout the years, but mostly enjoyed spending many years at Cundy’s Harbor and South Harpswell at the family cottage. He also never gave up the opportunity to take a trip to the coast to enjoy lobsters and clams. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering for the Red Sox and Pats. Dwight will always be remembered for being the rock for his family and friends but mostly for “Driving Miss Daisy.”
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Beverly Paiton of Auburn; two daughters, Patricia Paiton-Small and her husband, Zack, of Leeds, and Donna Nadeau and her husband, Ralph, of Auburn; three granddaughters, Kimberly Mancini and her husband, John, of Portland, Valerie Taylor and her fiancé, Jim Plourde, of Vassalboro, and Katie Nadeau of Auburn; a step-grandson, Dan Small and his wife, Michelle, of Turner and their children, Benjamin and Danielle Small; and his twin brother, Donald Paiton and his wife, Barbara, of Weld.
He was predeceased by an infant sister, Ruth Paiton; and another sister, Dorothy Peterson.
The family would like to send a special thank-you to the entire staff at Central Maine Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave to Dwight.
