Florida – Joanne Gilbert Mills of West Palm Beach, Fla., and formerly of Lewiston, passed away on Aug. 15, peacefully with her family at her side at Delray Medical Center, Delray, Fla.

She was born in Lewiston, June 20, 1938, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Shrum Gilbert. She was a graduate of Lewiston High School in 1956 and worked in the office of Clark Shoe in Auburn following graduation. She later entered the banking field and retired as a financial officer at Connecticut Bank and Trust, in Greenwich, Conn.

She married Carl V. Mills Jr. on June 23, 1959, at the Oxford Congregational Church in Oxford. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren and was well known for her knitting skills, creating many fashionable items for family and friends. She was a family-oriented woman and enjoyed spending time with her family. She remained close to her extended family in Lewiston-Auburn and South Paris, returning annually for visits, and maintaining communication with long letters full of family news, photos and her dry wit in between visits. She was an avid bowler, winning trophies with her teammates. Jigsaw puzzles were another interest, and one was always set up for her to work on. Sitting around the pool and reading was another favorite pastime.

She is survived by her children, Beth A. Mills of Pompano Beach, Fla., Carl V. Mills lll and his wife, Tracy, of Pell City, Ala., Kevin L. Mills of West Palm Beach, Fla., and her grandchildren, Jason and Jenna, also of Fla. Also surviving are her sister, Rachel Morin of Auburn; a brother, Eugene Gilbert and wife, Lydia, of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Sally Day and her husband, Bruce, of South Paris, brother-in-law, Steve Mills and his wife, Diane, of Scarborough; and a sister-in-law, Tina Gilbert of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; and a brother, Brian A. Gilbert.
