Washington – Marjorie Gambee Conklin, 81, a resident of Waldoboro Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Fieldcrest Manor, after a long illness. She was the widow of Kenneth Robert Conklin, who died in 2005.

She was born May 1, 1926, in Tarrytown, N.Y., the daughter of Wheeler and Martha Gambee. She attended schools in White Plains, N.Y., and was a graduate of Columbia University, with a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy. For 10 years she was employed as a physical therapist with Grasslands Hospital in New York. Exemplifying putting her family first, she served as den leader for many years with the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts and also enjoyed going swimming, camping and ice skating competitively in New York.

Upon moving to Maine, she became active in local groups, including the grange, where she served as past master of Evening Star Grange in Washington, and lecturer and chaplain of Knox Pamona Grange of Knox County. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered with her husband at the Matthews Museum in Union and the Union Senior Citizens Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Marthanne Conklin of Thomaston; two sons, Ronald Conklin of Sitka, Alaska, and Robert Conklin of Turner; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Rinehart of Washington, Kenneth Rinehart of Rockland, Matthew and Joshua Conklin, both of Turner, Ronald Conklin Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Jessie Conklin of Orlando, Fla. and Jennifer Conklin of Lancaster, Pa.; and eight great-grandchildren, including Hannah Babcock and Jacob Rinehart, both of Washington.
