LEWISTON – Eugene N. Posnick, 69, passed away peacefully with his family by his side late Friday evening, Aug. 17, after struggling with a long illness. “Gene” had become a hospice patient while at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston.
Born in Springfield, Mass., on Feb. 15, 1938, he was the oldest child of Nathan and Millian (Babe) Posnick. He was educated in Springfield schools.
He married in 1966 and relocated to Maine in 1973, where he resided for the rest of his life and adopted two children.
He was a man of many traits. He worked as a salesman and earned an award for top salesman of the year while working at Burroughs Corp. He went on to work for Nissen Bakery and later worked at Bath Iron Works, where he was employed until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish.
Gene’s greatest joy was to be around his family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, loved to play cards, tell stories and was known to make many people, of all ages, laugh and smile. He will be sadly missed by many.
He is survived by his dear friend and ex-wife, Bernadette (Hebert) Posnick, of Lewiston; a son, Jason and his wife, Jeanne, of Auburn; a daughter, Jennifer and her fiancé, John, of Sabattus; two grandsons, Austin and Keenan, of Sabattus; a sister, Joan Ferguson and her husband, Raymond, of West Springfield, Mass., and their children, Kim and Keelie; and a special aunt, Delores Jones, of West Springfield, Mass.
Gene also leaves behind dear friends, Lennie, Danny, and Jim; and the many close friends at the Auburn Esplanade.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Central Maine Medical Center, Dr. Rietschel (who never gave up and got him home one last time), Dr. Ferguson and the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
