LEWISTON – Hilda J. McCarthy, formerly of Lisbon Falls, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, after a short illness.

She was born in Freeport on Feb. 4, 1921, daughter of David H. and Josephine Prosser Longway. She attended Durham and Freeport schools. She retired from Eastland Shoe in Freeport after 53 years in the shoe industry.

After retiring, she moved to Harmony, where she had many friends. She loved gardening, knitting, and playing bingo and cards with her friends. She loved spending time with her family, especially her best friend and sister “Phine.”

She is survived by four sons, Dana and devoted daughter-in-law Sue Milliken of Auburn, Peter and his wife, Marie Milliken, of Durham, Steven and Martha Corliss of Corinna, and Scott Corliss of Lisbon; a daughter, Lori and husband, Forrest “Butch” Jordan, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; a brother, Harold Longway of Durham; two sisters, Josephine “Phine” Bulick of Lisbon Falls and Madelyn Lincoln of Waterboro; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Diana Milliken Halle; three sisters; and three brothers.
