LIVERMORE FALLS – Two underage teenagers are accused of stealing a 30-pack of beer from Cumberland Farms. One of the boys was arrested at the scene while the other took off in handcuffs, police said.
Police were called to the store on Main Street on the theft complaint at 2:42 a.m. Thursday, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday. One Livermore Falls boy, 16 or 17, stayed put when he was arrested and charged with theft of the beer, he said.
The second Livermore Falls boy, 16, ran up the hill after he had been handcuffed, Steward said.
His mother brought him to the police station later that morning, he said, and the handcuff chain that attaches the two cuffs was broken.
The boy was charged with escape, criminal mischief and theft, Steward said.
