LEWISTON – Harold S. Soper Sr., 79, of Auburn, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Central Maine Medical Center following a long and courageous battle with cancer with his loving family by his side. His sufferings are over, as the angels carry him to God.
He was born in Auburn, July 18, 1928. He was raised by his grandmother, Abbie E. Whitney, and had been a resident of this community all of his life.
He was married to the former Flora B. Wing, whom he married on April 20, 1956, and who recently died on June 8.
He was employed as a chimney sweeper and later in masonry. In his last years, he worked alongside his son, Bruce. The highlight of his days were traveling with him to work.
Harold was a wonderful father who cared for all of his children and grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his three loving daughters, Clarissa and Arthur Collins, Sue and Steven Bowden, and Linda and Robert Levesque; five sons, Normand Child, Harold Soper Jr., Donald Soper, Bruce Soper and fiancée, Liz LeBlanc, and Robert and Heather Soper; 32 grandchildren; and many great and great-great-grandchildren.
